Care Team at Pencalenick
Mrs Lorraine Faulkner
Head of Care
Most of my working life has been spent working in some form of residential care provision. I have worked in a number of different care settings with clients with a range of needs and ages, from a children's unit in a special hospital to care homes for adults with dementia and all provisions in between. I have a BA (Hons) in Psychology and moved to Cornwall from London many years ago.
My role as Head of Care is to support the Care team in delivering a high quality service to those pupils who use the residential provision, to develop and expand the provision and to ensure we provide an innovative service which meets the needs of a group of young people with a diverse range of needs. I am passionate about residential care in general and ours in particular. Pupils are helped to learn how to look after themselves, become independent, make friends and, most importantly of all, have fun. There is never a day when something positive hasn’t happened, something useful hasn’t been learned, something kind hasn’t been shared or something silly laughed about. Our pupils are accepting of each other's differences and tolerant of the challenges some of them face and it is remarkable to see that tolerance and acceptance in operation.
I also have responsibility for the school buildings and grounds, all of which are beautiful, and lead the teams responsible for ensuring that our pupils have the best environment to support their learning that we can provide.
I am very proud to work at Pencalenick. The staff work hard every day, sometimes in very creative ways, to ensure that every pupil has the education and care they need and deserve.
